The key to living a vibrant, fulfilling life is to take care of yourself. At Meth-Wick Community, we’re more than familiar with this concept. We believe there are six dimensions of wellness you need to tend to in order to live your best life. One of those six important dimensions is physical wellness.
Physical wellness encompasses exercise, diet and medical health care. It’s the key to overall well-being and prolonged independence. Access to a variety of physical activities, nutritious food options and quality health care make it easier to maintain exceptional physical health.
Exercise is Essential
Did you know that seniors who regularly exercise are more likely to have a wound heal faster than those who don’t? Not to mention, it can delay, or event prevent diseases like stroke, heart attack and osteoporosis.
That’s why we provide a fitness center that gives our residents access to group fitness classes as well as individualized attention. All of these classes focus on aspects such as strength, balance, endurance, flexibility, and range of motion.
According to the CDC, physical activity doesn’t necessarily need to be strenuous in order for seniors to reap the benefits. Our exercise programs are highly adaptable. We believe everyone deserves a program that fits their individual abilities, which is why we offer all different levels of fitness programs to ensure every resident can participate.
Nutrition is Necessary
Another core factor to maintaining physical health is a well-balanced diet. Unfortunately, one in four seniors in America have a poor diet according to the National Resource Center on Nutrition, Physical Activity and Aging. Eating healthy provides seniors with more energy and can prevent problems such as heart disease or diabetes.
Eating a well-balanced meal is crucial for older adults. It’s important seniors eat all different sorts of healthy food so they can get all of the necessary nutrients. Colorful foods are always the best option! A healthy meal should include:
- Lean protein (beans, eggs, fish)
- Fruits and vegetables (think orange, red, green, and purple)
- Low-fat dairy (milk or dairy alternatives)
- Whole grains (brown rice or whole wheat pasta)
We provide quality dining services and staff that always serve up nutritious meal options. We also have a dietitian on staff available for individual consulting.
Medical Care is a Must
Getting proper medical care is essential for every senior. However, that doesn’t always happen. This can be due to many different factors, whether it’s a struggle to get transportation to and from the doctor or simply remembering to take daily medications. There are many hurdles that can stand in the way of older adults receiving proper medical care.
It’s a given that as you age, your medical needs grow, but that doesn’t mean you should put your life on hold. At Meth-Wick, we offer various services to ensure all of our residents can maintain as much autonomy as possible so they can continue to live their best lives at their own pace.
At Meth-Wick, we fully support every dimension of wellness. Our goal is to assist our residents in taking an active role in maintaining, and enhancing, their own personal wellness by allowing them to utilize our wide array of amenities offered on our campus.
