In my short time at Meth-Wick, I’ve repeatedly heard a few misconceptions. So as 2024 draws to a close, I wanted to share some of the myths and clear up some of these misconceptions about senior living communities in general and Meth-Wick in particular.
Myth: Meth-Wick Has a Long Wait List so I Could Never Get In.
Meth-Wick does have a lengthy wait list AND has immediate openings. Many people add their name to the wait list knowing that they plan to move to Meth-Wick at some point in the future. When an opening occurs, each person on the waiting list for that building is contacted and if none are quite ready to move, an immediate opening exists. It is not uncommon for Meth-Wick to be able to accommodate someone moving in on fairly short notice.
Myth: Senior Living Communities are For Frail, “Old” People Who Need Lots of Assistance.
The majority of the Meth-Wick Community is independent living and is home to a very active, engaged group of individuals. You’ll often find people enjoying the walking trails that run through the 68-acre campus, feeding the fish in the koi pond with their grandchildren, enjoying a cup of coffee in The Brew, or gathering for Happy Hour with friends. Assistance is available if needed, providing reassurance for meeting future needs.
Myth: Senior Living Communities Are Too Expensive. I Could Never Afford It.
Meth-Wick offers a variety of living styles, apartment options and sizes, and levels of care with varying costs. When compared to maintaining a home residence and receiving the same level of services and support in that home, the cost of senior living communities is very comparable. And that doesn’t even take into account the added convenience of having entertainment, housekeeping and maintenance services, and additional support if needed available at your fingertips.
Myth: I Don’t Want to Give Up My Independence.
Meth-Wick was designed for active older adults and is focused on wellness and healthy aging. Life at Meth-Wick can be as independent as you want it to be. With lots of amenities and programs to enjoy and without the hassles that come with homeownership, at Meth-Wick Community you’ll find a very dynamic community. Moving while you are still healthy allows you to stay in control of your choices and to rest assured that assistance is available if you need it.
Myth: There are Many New Options for Senior Living in the Area. Are They All About the Same?
While there are many options, they are all unique and have different offerings. Meth-Wick offers an entire continuum of services including independent living, independence plus support, assisted living, memory care, and a skilled nursing health center. Once someone joins the Meth-Wick Community, they receive priority for care across the continuum of services. Other senior living options in the area are more specialized, which means residents may need to move as their needs change over time. Additionally, service quality varies. Meth-Wick’s health center, the Woodlands, is a 5-star rated health center that recently received no deficiencies in its annual state quality review, a very rare occurrence in Iowa.
